Set monthly spend limits and alerts on OpenAI and the Claude Console so a runaway loop or leaked key cannot drain your card overnight.
Put a monthly spending cap on my OpenAI and Claude accounts
How it works
- Check this month's spend: Vovy opens the Usage pages on both platforms and shows a chart of spend by day, so you set limits based on real numbers.
- Set an OpenAI project limit: In OpenAI settings, Vovy opens your project's Limits and sets a monthly budget plus an email alert at a lower threshold.
- Set a Claude workspace limit: In the Claude Console, Vovy opens Settings, then Limits, and sets a monthly spend limit on your app's workspace.
- Turn off risky auto top-ups: Vovy checks auto-reload settings and explains the tradeoff: off is safest, on keeps your app from going down if credits run out.
- Summarize your guardrails: A card lists every limit and alert, and what your users will see if a cap is hit, like a 429 error, so you can show a friendly message.
What you provide
- Admin access to your OpenAI and Claude accounts
- A monthly budget you are comfortable with
What you get
- Monthly caps on each provider
- Early email alerts
- A plan for what happens when a cap is hit
FAQ
Will a cap stop my app mid-month?
Yes. Once a hard limit is hit, calls fail until the next cycle or until you raise it. Alerts give you warning first.
Are limits exact?
Not quite. Enforcement can lag slightly, so a small amount may go over. Keep the cap below what would truly hurt.
Do prepaid credits already protect me?
Partly. With auto top-up off you cannot spend more than your balance, but a bug can still burn the whole balance fast.
