Free up disk space eaten by dev tools | Vovy
Vovy finds the biggest dev space hogs, like old node_modules, Docker images, Xcode DerivedData and caches, and clears what is safe after you approve.
My Mac is out of space, clean up node_modules, Docker and Xcode junk
How it works
- Measure what is big: Vovy scans your projects and Library folders and builds a size table so you see where the gigabytes went.
- Find stale node_modules: Vovy lists node_modules in projects you have not touched in months. They are just downloads and come back with npm install.
- Check Docker and Xcode: Vovy totals unused Docker images and Xcode DerivedData, simulator runtimes and build caches, which often hide tens of gigabytes.
- Clean up what you approve: You tick what to delete. Vovy runs docker system prune, brew cleanup and removes chosen folders, never your source code.
- Show space recovered: A chart card compares before and after, and lists how to rebuild anything if you need it again.
What you provide
- Your approval on what to delete
- Which projects are still active
What you get
- A table of your biggest dev folders
- Gigabytes back
- Nothing deleted without your OK
- How to restore each item
FAQ
Is it safe to delete node_modules?
Yes. It only holds downloaded packages. Run npm install in that project to get it back.
What is Xcode DerivedData?
Build leftovers from compiling apps. It is safe to delete; Xcode rebuilds it next time, which just makes that build slower.
Will Docker prune delete my database?
Only if data lives in an unused volume. Vovy leaves volumes out unless you specifically approve them.
