Vovy creates your own repo from a GitHub template or fork, clones it, fills in the setup steps from the README, and runs it locally.
Start a new project from this Next.js SaaS starter on GitHub
How it works
- Vet the starter: Vovy checks the repo's license, last update and open issues, and shows a card so you do not build on an abandoned template.
- Make your own copy: Vovy clicks Use this template, Create a new repository, which gives you a clean copy with fresh history. Without that button, it forks instead.
- Clone and install: Vovy clones your new repo and installs packages with the package manager the starter uses.
- Follow the README setup: Vovy works through the README: copying .env.example, asking you for keys, and running any setup scripts.
- Run it: Vovy starts the app, opens localhost, and shows a card of which parts are yours to change first.
What you provide
- The template's GitHub link
- Any API keys the starter needs
What you get
- Your own repo from the template
- The starter running locally
- Setup steps completed
- A map of where to start editing
FAQ
Template or fork, what is the difference?
A template gives you a fresh repo with no link back. A fork stays connected to the original, which is better for contributing changes back.
Can I make my copy private?
With Use this template, yes. Forks of public repos must stay public.
Is it legal to use someone's starter for a business?
Check the license. MIT and Apache 2.0 allow commercial use; no license means you do not have permission.
