Wire expo-notifications into your app, set up Apple and Firebase credentials in EAS, and send a real test push to your phone.
Add push notifications to my app and send myself a test one
How it works
- Add expo-notifications to the app: Vovy asks Claude Code to install expo-notifications, request permission on launch, and save each device's Expo push token to your database.
- Create an Apple push key: Vovy lets EAS create the APNs key, Apple's credential for sending iPhone pushes, during eas credentials. You sign in to Apple when asked.
- Connect Firebase for Android: Android pushes go through Firebase Cloud Messaging. Vovy creates a Firebase project, downloads google-services.json, and uploads the FCM V1 service account key to EAS.
- Make a new build: Push needs native setup, so it does not work in Expo Go on Android. Vovy creates a development build and installs it on your phone.
- Send a test push: Vovy pastes your device token into Expo's push notifications tool and sends one. You see the result on your phone and a card explains sending from your backend.

FAQ
Is Expo's push service free?
Yes, Expo's push service is free to use. You still need Apple and Firebase credentials behind it.
Why don't I get pushes in Expo Go?
Expo Go no longer supports remote push on Android, so you need a development build to test properly.
Will users be asked for permission?
Yes. iOS always asks, and newer Android versions ask too. Ask at a moment when the value is clear, not on first launch.
