Create a Supabase project, pick a region, save the database password, and connect your app with the project URL and publishable key.
Set up a Supabase project and connect it to my app
How it works
- Create a Supabase project: Vovy opens supabase.com/dashboard and clicks New project. You sign in yourself. Vovy picks the region closest to your users, since distance adds delay to every query.
- Save the database password: Supabase shows the database password once. Vovy generates a strong one and helps you store it in 1Password before moving on.
- Copy your project URL and key: Vovy opens the Connect dialog and copies your Project URL and publishable key (sb_publishable_...), which is safe to use in the browser.
- Add them to your app: Vovy writes them into your .env file, installs @supabase/supabase-js, and creates one small file that sets up the Supabase client.
- Test the connection: Vovy runs your app and makes a test query. A card confirms it connected and explains your secret key must never go in browser code.

FAQ
Is Supabase free?
The Free plan gives you 2 active projects with a 500 MB database each. Pro is $25 a month per organization and adds daily backups and more space.
What's the difference between the publishable and secret key?
The publishable key is safe in the browser because Row Level Security limits what it can do. The secret key bypasses all security and belongs only on a server.
My tutorial mentions an anon key. Where is it?
The anon and service_role keys are the older versions, now under the Legacy API Keys tab. New projects should use publishable and secret keys.
