Vovy creates a Slack webhook and a small Supabase function that posts each new signup, with name and source, to a channel you choose.
Ping me in Slack every time a new user signs up
How it works
- Create a Slack channel and app: Vovy creates #signups, then makes a Slack app at api.slack.com with Incoming Webhooks turned on. You approve adding it to your workspace.
- Store the webhook as a secret: The webhook URL works like a password, so it goes into Supabase Edge Function secrets, not your code.
- Write the edge function: It deploys a small edge function that formats a message like "New signup: Maya, from Product Hunt" and posts it to Slack.
- Trigger it on new users: Vovy adds a Database Webhook on your profiles or users table, so every insert calls the function.
- Test it: It signs up a test user and shows you the Slack message that just arrived.
What you provide
- A Slack workspace
- Your Supabase project
What you get
- #signups channel
- Instant message per signup
- Webhook stored safely
FAQ
Does this cost anything?
No. Slack webhooks are free, and edge function calls for signups stay well inside Supabase's free allowance.
Will it slow down signup?
No. The webhook runs after the row is saved, so the user never waits on Slack.
Can I include which plan they picked?
Yes, any column on that row can go in the message. Vovy avoids posting sensitive data like phone numbers.
