Vovy installs the Claude GitHub app and Claude Code GitHub Action, adds your API key as a secret, and tests an @claude mention on a real issue.
Set up Claude on my GitHub repo so I can mention @claude in issues and PRs
How it works
- Start the guided setup: Vovy opens Claude Code in your repo and runs /install-github-app, which walks through the whole setup.
- Install the Claude GitHub app: GitHub asks you to install Claude's app on the repo. You pick the repo and approve it yourself.
- Add your credentials: Vovy saves your Anthropic API key or Claude login token as a repository secret, never in the workflow file.
- Merge the workflow: The setup opens a pull request adding the Claude workflow file. Vovy reviews it with you and merges.
- Try an @claude mention: Vovy comments @claude on an open issue and shows Claude's reply and pull request as they arrive.
What you provide
- Admin access to the repo
- An Anthropic API key or Claude plan
What you get
- @claude working in issues and PRs
- Credentials stored as secrets
- A reviewed workflow file
- A first AI-made pull request
FAQ
Does this cost money?
Claude's usage is billed to your API key or plan, and the workflow uses GitHub Actions minutes, which are free on public repos and limited on private ones.
Can Claude merge to main by itself?
It opens pull requests and comments. Merging is still your call, especially if main is protected.
Can I do this without Terminal?
The guided command is easiest, but you can also install the app and add the workflow manually from Anthropic's docs.
