Vovy invites a collaborator to your private repo with the right permission level and explains how to remove access when the work ends.
Add my developer to my private GitHub repo with write access
How it works
- Open collaborator settings: Vovy opens your repo's Settings, Collaborators page. GitHub may ask you to confirm your password or passkey, which you do yourself.
- Find their account: Vovy clicks Add people and searches for their GitHub username or email, and confirms it is the right person.
- Send the invite: Vovy sends the invitation. On a personal account, collaborators get write access: they can push code but cannot change settings.
- Protect main: Vovy offers to require pull requests on main, so their changes are reviewed before reaching your live app.
- Show who has access: A card lists everyone with access, their role, and the one click to remove someone later.
What you provide
- Their GitHub username or email
- Admin access to the repo
What you get
- An invite sent
- Access level explained
- Optional protection for main
- A way to revoke access later
FAQ
Does it cost extra to add collaborators?
No. GitHub Free allows unlimited collaborators on private repos owned by a personal account.
Can I give read-only access?
Not on a personal repo. For finer roles like Read or Triage, move the repo into a free GitHub organization.
They never got the invite.
Invites expire after 7 days. They can also accept at github.com/notifications, or you can resend it.
