Vovy sets up Stripe Tax, checks where you may owe tax, adds your registrations, and turns on automatic tax in your checkout.
Turn on Stripe Tax so my checkout adds the right sales tax
How it works
- Set your business address and defaults: Vovy opens Tax settings in Stripe and sets your head office address and a default tax code, which tells Stripe what kind of product you sell.
- See where you may owe tax: It opens the Stripe Tax monitoring view and shows a card of places your sales are near a threshold, the point where you must register.
- Add your registrations: Vovy adds each place you're already registered to collect tax. Stripe only charges tax where you add a registration.
- Turn on automatic tax in checkout: In Cursor it sets automatic_tax to enabled on your Checkout Sessions so tax is calculated from the customer's address.
- Test a taxed purchase: Vovy buys with a test address in a registered state and shows the tax line on the receipt.

FAQ
What does Stripe Tax cost?
For no-code and Checkout setups it's 0.5% of transactions in places where you're registered. You're not charged for sales where you have no registration.
Does Stripe file and pay the tax for me?
No, not by default. Stripe calculates and collects it, and you or a filing partner still file returns.
Is this legal or tax advice?
No. Vovy shows what Stripe reports, but confirm your obligations with an accountant.
