Vovy sets up a Lemon Squeezy store as your merchant of record, adds your products and checkout overlay, and connects a webhook to your app.
Set up Lemon Squeezy so they handle taxes on my sales
How it works
- Explain merchant of record: A card explains that Lemon Squeezy becomes the legal seller, collecting and paying sales tax and VAT for you, in exchange for a higher fee.
- Set up your store: Vovy creates your store, adds products and subscription variants, and submits store activation, which Lemon Squeezy reviews before live sales.
- Add the checkout overlay: In Cursor it adds Lemon.js and Buy buttons that open checkout on top of your page instead of sending people away.
- Connect a webhook: Vovy creates a webhook under Settings, Webhooks for order_created and subscription events, with a signing secret your server checks.
- Run a test order: It buys in test mode and shows the order in Lemon Squeezy next to the user's unlocked access in your app.

FAQ
What does Lemon Squeezy cost?
It starts at 5% plus 50 cents per transaction, with extra fees for some international, PayPal and subscription payments.
Is Lemon Squeezy owned by Stripe?
Yes, Stripe acquired it in 2024, and Stripe now also offers its own merchant of record option called Managed Payments.
Why pay more than plain Stripe?
With Stripe alone you're the seller and handle tax registration and filing. A merchant of record takes that off your plate.
